We saw some of the “greatest hits” along with several hidden spaces we never would have seen on our own. She had a great sense of history and culture and made it all relatable. Barbara's breadth of knowledge and unique insight into Milan - past and present - made for a fascinating journey through this magnificent city. From the spires of the Duomo (which without Barbara's guidance I would have never have fully appreciated) to the ancient canals laying abandoned under city streets, I gained a huge appreciation for the history of Milan. Her expertise in the fine arts and the religious iconography woven throughout this city made for a wonderful experience. We requested Barbara to combine two tour topics for a one day tour. It was a long day but well worth it! Barbara presented an introduction to Milan with an in depth tour of the beautiful Duomo both inside , outside and on the roof where she explained the significance of symbols both religious and secular. From the roof we had a wonderful view of the city with its buildings both old and new. We walked through the city including the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and various neighborhoods while Barbara pointed out architecture, gardens and secluded courtyards of luxurious palaces some owned past or present by famous people like the Versaces. We were interested in the central Synagogue which Barbara arranged for us to tour. It had suffered major war damage except the facade but had been rebuilt. We also toured the Museum of the Shoah (Holocaust) located in the same place in the Central Train Station where the Jews of Milan were secretly brought starting in 1944 and boarded on trains in an underground part of the station to avoid detection. Then they were transported to camps where most were killed. This location was discovered many years later by a survivor and turned into a museum. Barbara was able to obtain tickets for us to see The Last Supper which is located in an old convent where da Vinci painted it. Barbara gave us insights into its creation, hidden meanings, attempted restorations and artistic style. Barbara is charming and so full of information on numerous subjects. She was very open to questions and gave us additional sights and restaurants to explore on our own. This was the best possible thing I could’ve done for my parents coming to Milan. I needed somebody to give them a one of a kind experience in this is exactly what they got. She’s not only caring, but also accommodating, and according to my parents, she is, just lovely to spend the day with. Everything is extremely planned, and the experience it’s tailor-made. I know that this will not be the last time. I will ask Barbara to take anyone around, even myself will probably one day ask her to go deep into the history of Milan. So much for a lovely two days, she even took pictures of them and recorded all of their movements so I could be in the know.
