One was primarily at the Pinacoteca di Brera where her knowledge of the paintings on display and of the history of art gave me an appreciation of the works we saw far beyond what I could have gleaned on my own. The tour of Secret Milan was very interesting as well, taking me to places I would never have found otherwise. We spent an entire day with her visiting al of the important sights including the Duomo, the Last Supper, the Fashion District, the Financial District and more. Besides being highly educated in many languages and art history, she knew every detail about Milan as well as Lake Como being a native of Milan. She provided us with a true immersion into the history, art , culture, shopping and food that was all First Class. She also led us on a day trip to Tourin— among her many offerings- that provided us another wonderful and in depth look at another beautiful Italian city. Barbara took our group of 3 teenagers and 2 grandparents on a full day tour of Milan right in the middle of a severe heat wave and was able to masterfully guide us through this wonderful city avoiding the crowds and the heat, all while keeping the teenagers engaged and the grandparents rested (not an easy task). Her choices of where to have a mid-morning coffee and a delightful lunch added to the experience. Frau Barbara Quarello hat uns dabei sehr einfühlsam und detailreich - und bestens organisiert (Kartenreservierungen) - Ihre Stadt präsentiert. Klar waren die Highlights der Stadt im Focus, jedoch die vielen kleinen versteckten Ecken in die wir geführt wurden, haben uns erst den Mehrwert einer professionellen Führung vor Augen geführt. Ohne diesem Detailwissen und Liebe zur eigenen Heimatstadt hätten wir diese Ecken von Mailand nie gesehen; neben den klassischen Hotspots wurden wir in Hinterhöfe, Gartenanlagen, aber auch Cafés, bis hin zu einem Rudel Flamingos geführt. We did a Secret Milan tour with Barbara. There was a strike that day and we had to walk back into city center to meet Barbara. She graciously adjusted the meeting time for us. I don’t think we’ve ever had a guide with such intimate knowledge of their city. We got a glimpse into Barbara’s life growing up in Milan. After showing us surprising and restful sites in Milan we ended our tour at the Basilica. As we left the Basilica people were coming in for a service. The combination of the long history and active worship today was an uplifting experience revealed through Barbara’s intimate knowledge. We highly recommend Barbara’s skills and knowledge. She really has a passion for Milan and guiding and tailored the experience to our interests. Barbara has a wide range of expertise - history, art, fashion, culture, food etc - and has many contacts throughout the city, which makes her a great guide. Barbara is a wealth of knowledge and was a delight to spend quality time with learning about the Last Supper and all the associated history. She was prompt, informative and professional in all aspects of our 90 minute tour of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Last Supper painting itself, as well as the fresco by Donato Montorfano, depicting the crucifixion. She also explained the surrounding area, which includes Leonardo's garden, and other aspects of the history of the that period.
